Gardenia

Gardenia

VARIETIES: Gardenia, Cape jasmine - G. jasminoides, also called G. grandiflora

MAXIMUM HEIGHT:	1-3 feet

BLOOMING:	Most will bloom continuously if provided with night temperatures above
		65°F (18°C).

SUBSTRATE:	2 parts peat moss to 1 part potting soil and 1 part sharp sand or
perlite. Do not add lime to the mixture.

LIGHT: At least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day.

TEMPERATURE: Night = 60 - 65°F (16 - 18°C), for continuous blooming be sure to
provide night temperatures above 65°F (18°C).
		Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C)

WATERING: Keep soil moist and well drained. It is best if you use soft water.
You can get soft water by collecting rain water or by boiling water and
allowing it to cool to room temperature before using.

HUMIDITY:	50% or higher. To achieve this, rest the pot on some stones in a dish
filled with water. Make sure the water does not submerge the stones and touch
the bottom of the pot. This will increase the humidity directly around the
plant due to the evaporation of the water in the dish. Also, mist the
		plant regularly.

FERTILIZING: Monthly.

PROPAGATING:	Propagate any time from stem cuttings. When planting the cuttings, cover the
pot with clear plastic wrap to increase the mositure/humidity level.
