Phalaenopsis

Phalaenopsis

VARIETIES: Moth orchid - P. amabilis, P. hybrids

MAXIMUM HEIGHT:	2 - 4 foot flower stalk, but foliage only reaches about 1 foot.

BLOOMING:	Can flower for up to 6 months.

LIGHT: Prefers bright indirect sunlight.

TEMPERATURE: Night = 65 - 75°F (18 - 24°C)
		Day = 75°F (24°C) or higher

WATERING: Keep the soil moist at all times. Yet be sure not let the soil stand in
		water.

HUMIDITY:	Prefers high humidity. To achieve this, rest the pot on some stones in
a dish filled with water. Make sure the water does not submerge the
stones and touch the bottom of the pot. This will increase the humidity
directly around the plant due to the evaporation of the water in the
		dish.

FERTILIZING: Feed with a liquid fertilizer (20-10-10) diluted to quarter of its
		recommended strength.

SUBSTRATE:	Use a potting soil specially formulated for orchid plants.

REPOTTING:	Spring and early summer.

NOTE: Once the first flower has faded, cut the stem just behind the flower.
This should result in new flowers growing from the stem.
Don't cut the stem back completely.
