Aloe

VARIETIES: 	Lace aloe - A. aristata
		Short-leaved aloe - A. brevifolia
		Gold-toothed aloe - A. nobilis
		Tiger, Partridge breast, Pheasant wing or Kanniedood - A. variegata
		True aloe - A. vera

MAXIMUM HEIGHT:	Lace aloe: 4 - 6 inches
		Short-leaved aloe: 3 - 4 inches
		Gold-toothed: 6 - 10 inches
		Tiger aloe: 12 inches tall, 6 inches wide
		True aloe: 18 - 20 inches 

SUBSTRATE:	1 part loam, 1 part leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand and ½ part
		crushed charcoal. OR use equal parts of general potting soil and 
		sharp sand.
		To each gallon pailfull of either mixture add:
		- 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone
		- 1 tablespoon of bone meal
						
LIGHT: 		Prefers bright direct sunlight.
		Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide 
		at least 1000 foot-candles over 12 hours a day.
		But will grow well in bright indirect light.
			
TEMPERATURE: 	Night = 50 - 55°F (10 - 13°C)
		Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C)

WATERING: 	Allow soil to become moderately dry between thorough watering.

FERTILIZING: 	Wait 1 year to fertilize new plants, 
		Mature plants - fertilize once each fall with house-plant fertilizer
			diluted to have the minimum recommended strength.

PROPAGATING:	Propagate at any season from young shoots that spring up at the
		base of	larger plants.
