AporocactusVARIETIES: Rattail cactus - A. flagelliformis MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 3 feet long. With tails being 1 inch thick. SUBSTRATE: Equal parts of potting soil, and sharp sand. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: - 1 tablespoon of bone meal - 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone LIGHT: 4 or more hours of direct sunlight per day. Or where only strong artificial light is available, be sure to provide at least 12 hours. TEMPERATURE: Spring - Autumn Night = 65 - 70°F (18 - 21°C) Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C) Winter Night = 50 - 55°F (10 - 13°C) Day = 65°F (18°C) or less WATERING: Spring - Fall: Allow soil to become barely dry between thorough waterings. Winter: Water only enough to prevent the leaves from shriveling. HUMIDITY: FERTILIZING: Mature plants - fertilize once a year with some bone meal. PROPAGATING: Propagate from stem cuttings in the summer. |
