VARIETIES: 	Cast-iron plant - A. elatior also called A. lurida
	
MAXIMUM HEIGHT:	3 feet

SUBSTRATE:	1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand.
		To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add:
		- 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate
		- 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone
		- 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer.
		OR! use general purpose potting soil.
						
LIGHT: 		Prefers shadowless light of a north window.
		Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide 
		at least 150 foot-candles.
			
TEMPERATURE: 	Night = 50 - 55°F (10 - 13°C)
		Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C)
		But will tolerate extreme temperatures of 45 - 85°F (7 - 29°C)

WATERING: 	Keeps soil barely moist at all times.

FERTILIZING: 	Wait until the following spring to fertilize new plants, 
		Mature plants - fertilize montly from early spring to early autumn.
			Do not fertilize for the rest of the year.

PROPAGATING:	Propagate by dividing roots in early spring. Several pieces of root with 
		leaves still attached can be planted together to make a cluster.
