SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part finely ground fir bark, 1 part sharp sand. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: - 2 tablespoon of bone meal Otherwise, use equal parts potting soil and peat moss or leaf mold. LIGHT: Prefers shadowless light of a north window. Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide at least 150 foot-candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 50 - 55°F (10 - 13°C) Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C) WATERING: Midautumn - Spring: Keep soil barely moist. For the remainder of the year, keep soil moist at all times. HUMIDITY: Enjoy increased humidity. Use a tray filled with pebbles and water to set the pot in. Be sure the bottom of the pot does not touch the water. The evaporation increases the humidity directly around the plant. FERTILIZING: Wait 6 months to fertilize new plants, Mature plants - fertilize at 6 month intervals PROPAGATING: Propagate from stem cuttings, from sections of main stems or by the method known as air layering. REPOTTING: Repot in late winter, just before new growth. Before potting, put a 1 inch layer of crushed charcoal at the bottom of the pot. |
