ChamaeropsVARIETIES: European fan palm - C. humilis MAXIMUM HEIGHT: around 6 feet SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand, and ½ part well-rotted or dried cow manure. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add 2 tablespoons of bone meal. OR! use general purpose potting soil. LIGHT: Prefers at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. If only artificial light is available, provide at least 800 foot candles over a 12 hour period. Also does well in bright indirect sunlight. TEMPERATURE: Night = 50 - 55°F (10 - 13°C) Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C) WATERING: Keep soil wet at all times but not such that it is standing in water. FERTILIZING: Wait until the following spring to fertilize newly purchased plants. Mature plants - fertilize every month from early spring to fall. Do not feed for the rest of the year. PROPAGATING: Propagate at any season from young shoots or suckers growing up from the base of the plant or from seed. REPOTTING: Early spring. |
