ChrysalidocarpusVARIETIES: Butterfly, golden butterfly, golden feather, can, areca or Madagascar palm - C. lutescens also called Areca lutescens, Hyophorbe commersoniana also called H. indica MAXIMUM HEIGHT: It will reach ceiling height and may run out of space because it cannot be pruned. SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand and ½ part of well rotted or dried cow manure. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: - 2 teaspoons of bone meal. OR! use general purpose potting soil. Press down the soil around the root ball especially well. LIGHT: Bright indirect sunlight. Or more than 400 foot-candles of artifical light. TEMPERATURE: Night = 65 - 70°F (18 - 21°C) Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C) WATERING: Keep soil moist at all times. Mist leaves and wipe clean. FERTILIZING: Wait until the following spring to fertilize new plants. Mature plants - fertilize every month from early sping until fall. Do not fertilize for the remainder of the year. PROPAGATING: Propagate from seed at any season. REPOTTING: Early spring. |
