VARIETIES: 	Weeping fig, Benjamin fig - F. benjamina
		Mistletoe fig - F. diversifolia, also called F. lutescens
		India-rubber tree, rubber tree - F. elastica
		Fiddle-leaved fig - F. lyrata, also called F. pandurata
		Indian laurel - F. retusa nitida, also called F. nitida

MAXIMUM HEIGHT:	Weeping fig - 4 - 6 foot tree
		Mistletoe fig - 8 inches - 2 foot bushy plant
		India-rubber tree - can reach ceiling height
		Fiddle-leaved fig - can reach ceiling height
		Indian laurel - 4 - 6 foot tree

SUBSTRATE:	1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand.
		To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add:
		- 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate
		- 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone
		- 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer.
		OR! use general purpose potting soil.
						
LIGHT: 		Prefers bright indirect sunlight.
		Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide 
		at least 400 foot-candles.
					
TEMPERATURE: 	Night = 65 - 70°F (18 - 21°C)
		Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C)
			
WATERING: 	Keep the soil barely moist.
		
FERTILIZING: 	Wait 6 months to fertilize new plants, 
		Mature plants - fertilize at 6 month intervals.

PRUNING:	Plants can be cut back as much as inches above the soil.
		They will sprout again. 
			
PROPAGATING:	Propagate by air layering.

REPOTTING:	Ficus can tolerate overcrowded roots for long periods of time. Don't
		bother to repot until the plant shows lack of flourishing.
		Repot in early spring.
