MarantaVARIETIES: Prayer plant, banded arrowroot - M. lauconeura erythroneura Massange's arrpwroot, Leige arrowroot - M. lauconeura massangeana Rabbit tracks, red spotted arrowroot - M. lauconeura kerchoveana MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 2-3 feet SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: 1½ teaspoons of 20% - 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate - 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone - 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer. OR! use general all purpose potting soil LIGHT: Bright indirect or curtain filtered sunlight Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide at least 400 foot-candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 65 - 70°F (18 - 21°C) Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C) WATERING: Keep soil moist at all times except in the winter, when it should be allowed to dry a bit between light waterings. FERTILIZING: Wait 4 months to fertilize new plants (including newly potted), Mature plants - fertilize at 2 month intervals until fall; do not feed the rest of the year. PROPAGATING: Propagate in early spring by shaking out all the soil and dividing the roots. |
