Sword Fern

Nephrolepis

VARIETIES: 	Sword fern - N. exaltata
		
MAXIMUM HEIGHT:	up to 3 feet long.

SUBSTRATE:	1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand, 1 part
		ground fir bark.
		OR!
		Use a mixture of equal parts of a packaged general-purpose potting 
		soil and peat moss or leaf mold.
		To either of these mixtures, add: 
		- 2 tablespoons of bone meal.
						
LIGHT: 		Prefers bright indirect sunlight.
		Or where only artificial light is available, provide at least
		400 foot-candles.
			
TEMPERATURE: 	Night = 50 - 55°F (16 - 18°C)
		Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C)
	
WATERING: 	Keep soil barely moist at all times.
		
FERTILIZING: 	Wait 6 months to fertilize new plants, 
		Mature plants - fertilize twice a year. Once in early spring and once 
			in mid summer. Fertilize using a standard house-plant fertilizer
			diluting to half the minimum recommended strength.

PROPAGATING:	Early spring by digging out the new plants developed from the creeping
		surface runners. Or dividing the roots of older plants.
