PedilanthusVARIETIES: Variegated devil's backbone, redbird slipperflower, redbird cactus - P. tithymaloides variegatus, also called Euphorbia tithymaloides variegatus, E. canaliculata variegatus E. carinata variegatus MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 3 feet SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: - 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate - 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone - 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer. OR! use general purpose potting soil. LIGHT: Prefers bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight. Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide at least 400 foot-candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 50 - 70°F (10 - 21°C) Day = 70 - 85°F (21 - 29°C) WATERING: Keep the soil barely moist. FERTILIZING: Wait 4 - 6 months to fertilize new plants, Mature plants - fertilize at 2 - 3 month intervals from early spring to midsummer. Do not fertilize for the remainder of the year. PROPAGATING: Propagate any season from stem cuttings. After making the stem cuttings, allow them to dry in a shady place for 2 days before placing the ends into the substrate. !!Be careful not to touch the milky sap that will come out of the stem after you have made the cut!!
