PeperomiaVARIETIES: Wrinkled-leaved peperomia - P. caperata Ivy peperomia - P. griseo-argentea, also called P. hederaefolia Blunt-leaved peperomia, pepper face - P. obtusifolia Watermelon peperomia - P. sandersii, also called P. arifolia argyeia MAXIMUM HEIGHT: Wrinkled-leaved peperomia - 3-5 inches Ivy peperomia - 6-8 inches Blunt-leaved peperomia, pepper face - 8-10 inches Watermelon peperomia - 8-10 inches SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: - 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate - 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone - 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer. OR! use general purpose potting soil. LIGHT: Prefers bright indirect sunlight. Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide at least 400 foot-candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 65 - 70°F (18 - 21°C) Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C) WATERING: SPRING-FALL: Keep the soil barely moist. WINTER: Allow soil to become moderately dry between thorough waterings. FERTILIZING: Wait 4-6 months to fertilize new plants, Mature plants - fertilize at 3-4 month intervals using standard house plant fertilizer diluted to half of its recommended strength. PROPAGATING: Propagate by leaf or stem cuttings. REPOTTING: Peperomia rarely outgrow their pots. If you must repot, do so in early spring. |
