PhoenixVARIETIES: Miniature date palm, pygmy date palm - P. roebelenii, also called P. loureirii MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 2 feet SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand, and ½ part well-rotted or dried cow manure. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add 2 tablespoons of bone meal. OR! use highly organic potting soil specially formulated for african violets. LIGHT: Bright indirect sunlight. If only artificial light is available, provide at least 400 foot candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 60 - 65°F (16 - 18°C) Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C) WATERING: Keep soil wet at all times. Yet be sure that the roots are not standing in water. FERTILIZING: Wait until the following spring before fertilizing newly purchased plants. Mature plants - fertilize monthly from early spring through summer. Do not feed for the rest of the year. PROPAGATING: Propagate from seed at any season. REPOTTING: Early spring. Make sure the new soil is compacted very hard between the old soil and the new pot. |
