PlatyceriumVARIETIES: Staghorn fern- P. bifurcatum MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 2 feet long SUBSTRATE: This is an epiphyte. Meaning it is a type of air plant. It grows naturally on tree trunks. It is usually sold on a wall mount of tree bark or in a hanging pot. For propagating or transplant, use a peat moss and long fibre sphagnum moss mixture to anchor the plant in. LIGHT: Bright indirect sunlight. Or where only artificial light is available, provide 400 foot-candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 50 - 55°F (10 - 13°C) Day = 68 - 72°F (20 - 22°C) WATERING: Keep the material it is anchored in wet at all times. Soak it well under the tap or in a bucket once a week. However, do not let it sit in water. FERTILIZING: Do not fertilize. PROPAGATING: Propagate at any season, from spores, or replanting tiny plants that pop up around the fronds. REPOTTING: Early spring. |
