PlectranthusVARIETIES: Swedish Ivy - P. australis White edged Swedish Ivy - P. coleoides mariginatus Candle plant - P. oertendahlii Purple leaved Swedish Ivy - P. purpuratus MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 2 foot long trailing stems. White edged Swedish Ivy can grow to a bush around 2 feet in hight. SUBSTRATE: 1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand. To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: - 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate - 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone - 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer. OR! use general purpose potting soil. LIGHT: Prefers bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight. Or where only artificial light is available, be sure to provide at least 400 foot-candles. TEMPERATURE: Night = 55 - 65°F (13 - 18°C) Day = 65 - 75°F (18 - 24°C) WATERING: Keep the soil barely moist at all times. FERTILIZING: Wait 3-4 months to fertilize new plants, Mature plants - fertilize at 2 month intervals using standard house plant fertilizer diluted to half of its recommended strength. PROPAGATING: Propagate any season by cutting off growing stems and encouraging root growth by placing them in plain water. You can included root growth hormone but it is not necessary. Once roots have formed from nodes on the stems (takes a few weeks), transplant the stems to a substrate mixture outlined above. REPOTTING: Any season. |
