Schefflera / Brassaia

VARIETIES: 	Common Names: 	Schefflera, Australian umbrella tree, Queensland umbrella tree
				Octopus tree.
		Scientific Names: - Brassaia actinophylla, Schefflera actinophylla,
					Schefflera arboricola, Schefflera macrostachya
		
HEIGHT:		2-3 feet when sold, but can reach 6 feet.

SUBSTRATE:	1 part loam, 1 part peat moss or leaf mold, 1 part sharp sand.
		To each gallon pailfull of this mixture add: 
		- 1½ teaspoons of 20% superphosphate
		- 1 tablespoon of ground lime-stone
		- 2 teaspoons of 5-10-5 fertilizer.
		Otherwise, use a general purpose potting soil.
						
LIGHT: 		4 or more hours a day of direct sunlight
		Or where artificial and natural light average 800 foot-candles over 12 hours
		per day.
			
TEMPERATURE: 	Night = 65 - 70°F (18 - 21°C)
		Day = 75 - 85°F (24 - 29°C)

WATERING: 	Keep soil moderately dry between thorough waterings.

FERTILIZING: 	Wait 6 months to fertilize new plants, 
		Mature plants - fertilize at 6 month intervals

PROPAGATING:	Propagate from seeds at any season.

PRUNING:	To retain small size, snip of tip of stems just above a leaf.

REPOTTING:	Any season.
