Temperature

Depending on the climate you live in and the heating/cooling system in place, the temperature of the indoors can fluctuate drastically. For some plants, large fluctuation in temperature is welcome such as cactii. For most plants, large fluctuation in temperature can do serious harm. Since many house-plants are tropical in origin, chilly winter nights in northern climates can take its toll on certain plants. It is wise to consider the conditions in which your plant will be living before purchasing one based soley on its looks. Using the outdoors to meet temperature requirements for different phases in a plants lifecycle is useful and beneficial.
